My academic journey began at the Art Center School in Los Angeles where I studied to become an automobile designer. After only three trimesters I had to return home and attend the more affordable Florissant Valley Community College. After classes, I began working with an architectural illustrator. Within three years we became business partners, and provided rendering and model building services to St. Louis architects, builders and developers for twenty years. Our firm grew to as many as six employees, but eventually,
I felt it was time for me to form my own company.
Soon thereafter, my new company, Marty Coulter Studio was asked to form a team of artists to illustrate the design work of PGAV Architects St .Louis for the Olympic Village in Barcelona Spain. With this project, and many others including Sea World, Universal Studios and Busch Creative Services of the Anheuser Busch Companies, I became a solo freelance illustrator and design consultant.
Eventually, the digital age began to replace traditional handmade artwork, and I was faced with a choice. Either tool up to compete with the new breed of illustrators, or find a different path. After taking a few workshops with some experts in the field, I transitioned into participating in the booming "plein air" outdoor landscape painting events. I spent the next fifteen years enjoying painting outdoors, frequently winning regional and national awards, receiving private commissions, selling event paintings and being represented
by a variety of galleries.
Then, about two years ago, an artist friend asked if I would consider doing a live wedding painting for a couple that had contacted her.
The idea intrigued me, since for the previous five years, I had also been painting live performances to raise funds for Steelville's Meramec Music Theater. These often had to be finished and framed, in less than an hour, to award the winner of the raffle during the intermission before their second act.
Live wedding painting has turned out to be my most loved endeavor, to date, and I get great satisfaction knowing that the couples and families I serve,
will be happily reminded of their wedding day for
many years to come!
With so many decisions to make in planning your wedding, my goal is to make adding my live wedding painting service an easy and affordable option. My fifty plus years as a professional artist gives me the speed and confidence to capture the moment and produce a beautiful impressionistic fine artwork that will thrill you, your family and guests. When you commission me, your one-third deposit holds your wedding date in my schedule. When I finish and frame your painting at your wedding, and when I know that you're happy with the result; only then will I collect the rest of my fee. If ever a concern about your painting, I'm always available to help.
Here is the process for scheduling and commissioning my service for only $950 complete!
