Marty Coulter Studio
Biography
My academic journey began at the Art Center School in Los Angeles, where
I studied to become an automobile designer. But after only three trimesters
it became too expensive, and I returned home to attend the more affordable Florissant Valley Community College. After classes, I began working with an illustrator. where I learned to paint architectural renderings. Within three years we became business partners, and for the next twenty years Whitesitt Coulter Inc, provided rendering and model building services to St. Louis architects, builders and developers. Our firm grew to as many as six employees, but eventually I felt it was time for me to form my own company.
Marty Coulter Studio was soon asked to form a team of artists to illustrate the design work of PGAV Architects in St .Louis for the Olympic Village in Barcelona Spain. This project and many others, including works for Sea World, Universal Studios and Busch Creative Services, provided another twenty plus years of creative challenges and triumphs.
When the digital era forever changed illustration, I had to make a choice between tooling up to compete in this new arena, or take a different path.
After taking some high-end workshops with several seasoned outdoor landscape painters, I began entering "plein air" events. Soon I was winning awards, selling paintings and showing my work in galleries. I even taught workshops of my own. In the 2016 Augusta Plein Air, I won Best of Show, Best in Oil, People's Choice and Artist's Choice! I was having a great time despite the challenges of working in the ever-changing elements.
Then one day, an artist friend called to suggest that I contact an engaged couple who wanted a live painter to perform at their wedding. I accepted the challenge and finished in under three hours. My newlyweds were thrilled! Now with only two years "learning the ropes", I'm really enjoying this art form.
This new journey has become by far my favorite artistic venture!
My Mission
With so many decisions to make in planning your wedding, my goal is to make adding my live wedding painting service an easy and affordable option. My fifty plus years as a professional artist gives me the speed and confidence to capture the moment and produce a beautiful impressionistic fine artwork that will thrill you, your family and guests. When you commission me, your one--third deposit holds your wedding date in my schedule. When I finish and frame your painting at your wedding, and when I know that you're happy with the result; only then will I collect the rest of my fee. If ever there's a concern about your painting, I'm always available to help.
